Case Study: Healthcare

Blackbird Health

Content Strategy, Brand Systems, and Growth Narrative During Rapid Expansion

Overview

Blackbird Health is a growth-stage pediatric mental healthcare company providing evaluations, therapy, medication management, and developmental support services for children and families across Pennsylvania and Virginia.

I joined the company as Director of Content Marketing during a period of rapid clinic expansion, evolving service offerings, and increased focus on local market growth and patient acquisition.

The Mandate

I was hired to help build a more scalable and strategic content operation capable of supporting multiple audiences, strengthening brand trust, and improving consistency across channels.

My work focused on:

  • establishing a unified brand voice

  • building scalable editorial and content systems

  • supporting patient and referral growth

  • improving local market visibility

  • strengthening communications with families, pediatricians, and educators

Over time, the role has expanded beyond content marketing into broader brand, PR, launch communications, operational storytelling, sales enablement, and cross-functional communications initiatives.

Scope of Work

My work spanned:

  • long-form editorial content

  • nurture campaigns

  • hyperlocal growth marketing

  • PR and earned media

  • launch communications

  • social media strategy

  • clinician bios and storytelling

  • operational UX and patient-facing content

In addition to strategy and execution, I managed a lean distributed creative team consisting of a freelance writer, freelance designer, and independent AI/SEO consultant.

Key Transformations

When I joined Blackbird, content was non-existent, operations were largely reactive, and messaging varied across audiences and platforms. I helped create a more structured and scalable system for editorial operations, content library creation, audience messaging, launch communications, social media, and SEO strategy. During my time there:

  • LinkedIn grew from 1,374 to more than 10,000 followers

  • clinic launch PR became a repeatable process

  • SEO and AI-assisted optimization workflows were introduced

  • clinician storytelling assets were centralized into a scalable system

  • content became an essential part of the company’s growth and expansion efforts

I also introduced one of the company’s first structured PR and earned media initiatives to support new clinic launches and regional awareness campaigns.

Blackbird’s organic following on LinkedIn grew 825% in 12 months.

Operating Environment

The organization was scaling quickly, frequently launching new clinics, evolving services, and shifting priorities based on operational and growth needs.

Success in the role required balancing strategy with fast execution, building systems while simultaneously operating within them, and maintaining consistency across a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Business Impact

One of the most meaningful aspects of the role was helping position content as a strategic growth function rather than simply a production function.

The work supported:

  • patient-family trust

  • regional brand awareness

  • referral relationships

  • clinic launch readiness

  • operational consistency

  • broader organizational visibility during a key stage of growth

Looking Ahead

This experience reinforced that my strongest work happens at the intersection of narrative strategy, operational growth, audience trust, and scalable communications systems.

Going forward, I’m especially interested in organizations where content and brand are viewed as strategic business drivers tied directly to growth, differentiation, and long-term market authority.
